Experience the history and culture of Montenegro. Visit the birthplace of a major figure in Montenegrin history. Explore the old capital of Cetinje and tour the National Museum. View the ornate interior of St. Tryphon Cathedral in Kotor and see ship models, ensigns and photographs at the Maritime Museum.

Njegusi - The village was the birthplace of Peter Petrovic-Njegos, considered the most important leader in Montenegrin history. During your visit, sample regional specialities including smoked ham, cheese, local brandy, and wine.

Cetinje - Located in a mountain valley, the former capital of Montenegro was founded in 1482.

National Museum - The museum is housed in the former royal palace built 1850. The palace was home to King Nikola Petrovic I, who ruled Montenegro 1860-1918. Visit the state apartments and view the collection of royal costumes, furnishings, and documents.

St. Tryphon Cathedral - A shrine to St. Tryphon is mentioned as early as the 9th century. Completed in 1166, Kotor's cathedral is an amalgam of Romanesque and Byzantine styles. The interior boasts a gilded altar, frescoes, and a collection of Venetian art dating to the 14th century.

Maritime Museum - Housed in the 17th century Grgurina Palace, the museum chronicles Kotor's glory days as one of the Adriatic's major naval powers. The museum exhibits include ship models, instruments, ensigns, photographs, and artifacts.

Boka Bay - A mountain overlook offers sweeping views of Kotor and Boka Bay, Southern Europe's largest fjord.

Budva - One of the oldest settlements in the Balkans, Budva is Montenegro's most popular seaside resort. The area is famed for its sandy beaches and rocky coves.

Board your air-conditioned motorcoach at the pier and drive inland, ascending the mountains to Njegusi. Continue to Cetinje, the former capital of Montenegro. Descend the mountain slopes to Budva. Travel past sandy beaches, rocky coves, on the return route to Kotor.

The mountain road to Njegusi is narrow and winding. The road includes 25 hairpin turns and ascends approximately 3,000 feet along steep dropoffs. Passengers with a fear of heights or subject to car sickness should take this into consideration when booking this tour. An alternate route may be taken in case of poor conditions.

Passengers must walk extensive distances and negotiate uneven surfaces. Not suited for passengers in wheelchair or with limited mobility. Wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat.

When visiting sacred sites wear conservative attire. Clothing should cover the shoulders and knees. Shorts are not permitted.
